Choy Lay Fut is the name of this particular style of kung fu, which comes from a combination of several northern and southern styles. Over 100 years ago, martial artist Chan-Heung studied under a Shaolin monk named Choy-Fok. Choy-Fok later sent him to learn Lay-Kar kung fu under Master Lay Yau-Shan. After both were satisfied with his progress, they sent him to learn the advanced Buddhist Palm style from the "Green Grass Monk." ("Fut" means monk.) As a tribute to his teachers, and combining all three styles with his own experience, Chan-Heung developed the Choy Lay Fut style of kung fu.
